New and developing opportunities in North Norway:

The Barents Sea region is a new, developing and long term opportunity where there is a high demand for additional capacity, knowledge and experience which the UK have been asked to provide.

One of our Norwegian clients we met this week has just won a £675m contract for work in North Norway. Aker, Aibel and Fabricon share £5.5 billion worth of work, according to Statoil. They are all interested in accessing the UK supply chain to service some of their work in the North. We would love to introduce you to them and others who could use your support!

Statoil moves north
statoil_logo

Statoil will establish a new operating area on the Norwegian shelf. The new operating area is located in Harstad and will be operational from the first half of 2013.

This will reinforce our presence in Northern Norway and help to ensure future value creation from the fields to the north.

Lund adds that there are expectations of more activity related to the north, further exploration in open areas and in areas that are expected to be made available to the petroleum industry. Initially, the Barents Sea east and then the areas in the northeastern Norwegian Sea.

Join the North, or forget Shell billions

Norske Shell will soon award a contract for the rebuilding of the plant Nyhamna. The contract will be in the same magnitude as Aibel the contract was awarded to 28 February, which was 6 billion, said Bernt Granås, the Norwegian director of Shell's projects in Norway.

My challenge to the supplier industry is that they must look at their strategy to establish itself in the North. Aibel has already done so. This is a sign that the industry is increasing focus towards the north, he concludes.

Expect a lot from the north

Growth and development in the North Norway was in focus, as the newly appointed head of the government's Northern Committee, Hans Olav Karde, began the evening at an award ceremony with a lecture on the development of the region. Karde pointed to a number of industries with growth potential in the north, and especially on the great potential of the petroleum industry, but also said that the realisation of growth potential requires national priorities.

Rich natural resources provide hope for future growth, but there are challenges related to recruitment and infrastructure, says Karde, who is CEO of SpareBank 1 Northern Norway, and a prominent figure in the northern Norwegian industry and society.
